Unlike many bone tumours, soft tissue masses are often less straight forward in the diagnostic process. There are a few signs that are pathognomonic, some that narrow down to either/or, and that fall into the “could be”/differential of likelihood range. The risk of “pitfalls and Oops lesions” in this group goes up considerably, especially if there aren’t a lot of distinguishing symptoms or clear indications. The module attempts to help shed some light on this large group of heterogeneous tumours found in the soft tissues of the musculoskeletal system. The module is targeted at radiologists who occasionally encounter soft tissue tumours outside of tumour centres, applying basic rules for distinguishing ‘potentially malignant’ from ‘probably benign’ masses, using primary exclusion trees and hints to help point you in the right direction.
