Description

This online Chest Imaging mini fellowship provides skills and knowledge in the interpretation of the trauma chest radiograph and CT. Optimisation of imaging protocols will also be discussed to enable the reporting radiologist to provide a timely clinicoradiological opinion to the attending trauma clinicians that informs the most appropriate management plan in the patient’s best interest.

Each session includes several short lectures, following which the attendee will have the opportunity to practice on anonymised chest trauma imaging cases selected from the Unilabs Academy teaching file archive. These cases will be reviewed during a group case discussion session with a “Question & Answer” session concluding each training day.

Unilabs Academy fellowships are held in a virtual classroom environment on Zoom. Participants are encouraged to engage in discussions making use of their camera and microphone in order to recreate the face-to-face experience.

Online sessions are recorded so that participants can review on their own time following the training.

In this small group environment among your peers, you are free to ask questions, make mistakes, and learn together with the support of the radiologist mentor.

Learning Objectives

Adopt a systematic approach at interpreting the trauma chest radiograph and CT
Describe common pathological entities acquired secondary to blunt and penetrating cardiothoracic injuries
Be able to prioritise and select the most appropriate imaging protocol

Consultant Radiologist and Lecturer with TMC

Nicola Schembri graduated from the University of Malta, Medical School in 2001. She obtained her radiology specialist training and medical education fellowship in the UK, where she worked as an NHS Consultant Radiologist in the latter years prior to emigrating to Australia in 2017 where she now offers a clinical emergency and elective teleradiology service with ATMC to several UK NHS hospitals. She currently also holds a fractional contract offering a consultant radiologist clinical service at one of the university teaching hospitals in the South Island, New Zealand. While in the UK, Nicola nurtured a subspecialist interest in thoracic imaging, interstitial lung disease being her niche specialist field. Her thoracic expertise developed further through her intense reporting sessions in traumatic and non-traumatic emergency imaging with the TMC UK on-call department and by contributing to the various chest imaging multidisciplinary meetings in both the UK and New Zealand. She is also an active accredited radiologist for the NHS England Lung Health Check screening program. Nicola is an author contributor in several peer-reviewed journal articles on pulmonary fibrosis and bronchiectasis published in the international leading peer-reviewed journals “Thorax” and “Chest”. She held a leading role in medical education both in medical student and radiology specialist registrar training programs in the UK and is a current lecturer in medical education at the Australian National University Medical School.
