Description

Thoracic cage anatomy and common developmental variants establish the context for imaging sternal, rib, and thoracic spine injuries. Chronic injury patterns and muscle and tendon trauma, including pectoralis major tears, are also reviewed.

Learning Objectives

Recognise normal anatomy and common variants of the sternum, ribs, joints, and thoracic spine.
Select appropriate imaging and identify acute and chronic osseous thoracic cage injuries.
Assess chest-wall muscle and tendon tears, including pectoralis major injury.
Differentiate normal developmental variants and chest-wall deformities from traumatic abnormalities.

He is the chairperson of the South African Musculoskeletal Imaging Group. He serves on SAMSIG and SASMA as a committee member. Founder of SportsRad, teleradiology solution.
